The Timeless Tunes

As more time passes and eras change, the life experiences of every generation differ greatly. As a result, we tend to feel a lot of ‘disconnect’ with each succeeding generation. Fortunately for us, tradition and culture have a beautiful way of minimising this generational gap. It lends us the privilege to have something in common with our ancestors and future generations – like hand-me-downs, if you will. This can be anything from an outfit to a ritual, or something even as simple as a song.

From young, Malaysians are taught a collection of folk songs which have been passed down through generations. Some may have been sung to us as lullabies by our mothers, others were taught in school, and some were sung as we danced and played with our friends in our backyards. Perhaps some of us even absentmindedly hum the tunes to this very day. Whether these songs tell stories or bear advice, the lyrics are always interlaced with evergreen messages for young children.

For Children's Day this year, Ariani wants to celebrate the nostalgia of our childhood days by immortalising, in our own way, the songs that some of us may still be singing today (possibly to our own children!) and hopefully, for many more years to come. Featuring exclusively designed prints for 3 of our treasured folk songs, we present to you, The Timeless Tunes; our very own interpretation of Suriram, Ikan Kekek, and Rasa Sayang.
